Annual Photographic Competition 2009

Once again the Broadplace is having a photographic competition. This year we tip our hats towards the Charles Darwin Bicentenary, and we also have a second category, which recognises our special place amongst the Shropshire Hills, an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', which we thought fitted well with this years Darwin events.

Use your imagination this year:- For Darwin you can submit two or more connected pictures, or a montage in one picture, or just a single picture on the Evolution or Orign themes, but costwise it is one fee for each entry regardless of the number of pictures provided they are connected. Entries are at the very reasonable fee of £1.00 and £0.50 for those under 17.

You are positively encouraged to use Photoshop, to enhance and adjust your pictures, and if you wish to use a photograph from standard film, it should be scanned before submitting it. In either case, we can give some help at The Broadplace.

As before, we intend to create calendars for sale later at a special evening.

For an entry form, come to Broadplace on any Thursday afternoon or evening 2-8pm., or click here

Free Computers in Pontesbury?

No, its so much more than that! Switch on Shropshire has supplied: not just computers, but Webcams, Skype phones, headphones - so you can talk to anyone anywhere in the world free and see them at the same time!

A colour printer and scanner with facility for converting photo negatives - so you could print leaflets and posters for your organisation, or get copies of much loved photographs from the original negative.

A digital camera and/or digital video camera and mini card reader - so you can come along and learn how to upload from your own camera, or test drive the camera before you buy your own, or borrow the video camera to make a film about something important to you.

A digital projector and big screen - so you could host film nights, race nights to raise funds for the community or for youngsters to use during the holidays.

Music composition software, mikes, midi keyboard - so if we have someone in the village who knows how to use it they could borrow it or show other people how to make original music.

Virtual DJ software - for anyone who has ambitions to be a DJ but can’t afford it yet!

Headphones with mikes and secure online video conferencing - so you can learn a language online and talk to your tutor using the webcam.

Software including: Dreamweaver for web design, music editing, family history research, garden design, driving test support ... etc.

All this, and much more, has been given to Pontesbury by...... sos logo

Pontesbury is a busy village with lots going on but we now have so much more when we use the Broadplace, and it will help us by also providing services that we currently have to travel to Shrewsbury to access, such as Live, on-line access to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, the Job Centre, Interviews, Health Checks, Homework Clubs, Genealogy as well as specific and general experience and tuition in the use of computers for whatever you want to do.

If you have not yet given your name to a member of the steering group, did not attend the launch evening, or one of the meetings earlier last year, please use our contacts page here to register your interest, so that we can keep you informed of all developments.

We are open on Thursdays - two sessions, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Just drop in, dozens of people have already done so.
